Child of Light

Messages of Light

Matthew 11:28-30
"Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Christ is Relief. He will carry us, lighten our load. More often he will send us people who will be there for our aid. As HIS children of light, we must always follow the promptings to help.

I was in Walmart the other day and a woman in an electric wheelchair was trying to put one of those big packs of soda into her cart in front of the chair. I heard the whisper, "HELP", so I reached out and lifted the box into her cart because she was struggling to make it fit. You would have thought I saved her from certain death. She was so grateful. I didn't make a big deal, just turned and went my way. As I did I heard her say, "That was the kindest thing to do to help me."

It seemed small, but to her, it was not. It lightened her load and helped her feel like someone cared. I challenge you to listen closely as you are prompted and then act on what the whisperings are telling you to do. Then, be a Doer of the word of Christ. He cannot always be the one, we must help his work.

1 Nephi 4:14-18
These scriptures are of Nephi explaining his thought process after receiving the commandment to kill Laban. As I read them, the spirit witnessed to me that these simple verses are evidence that our church is not a CULT. God clearly commands Nephi. Instead of forcing him to do it, he allows Nephi to REASON IT OUT IN HIS OWN MIND. This concept is contrary to the definition of a cult. A cult expects you to follow blindly, not questioning. It just is as it is and you must follow.

In our recent conference, our leaders encourage us to study, pray, and reason the truth of things out in our own minds so that we can bear witness to the truth of things from the knowledge and insight we gain from that time! This is huge to me. From the scriptures and from the mouths of the prophets here on the Earth now, the same message is clear. Find the truth, question, and ask. Don't just read or hear and follow blindly. That is NOT the Lord's way. We are here to gain and acquire knowledge for ourselves. It is highly encouraged and required even to examine the things we are taught, told, and commanded.

I personally am so grateful for this knowledge. I can now profess with a surety that my membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not signify that I am a cult member. I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I am unashamed.

Patriarchal Blessings

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I have had my patriarchal blessing. This is a sacred, private, special personalized blessing that allows us to know our lineage, and have a message from God about our lives if we live worthy of the blessings and gifts. You can learn more by clicking this link; Patriarchal Blessings.

I read my blessing often. I am truly grateful for it. I struggle at times to remember the words and the positive things about myself, especially in a difficult and dark world. One that constantly reminds us we are not enough. I recently devised a way to analyze my blessing and wanted to share the worksheet with you, in hopes that it can help you to understand your divine potential and the part you can play in the building up of God's Kingdom here on Earth. It is free for your use. It is not endorsed by the church. It is a personal document created to help you understand your blessing.

If you would like to create your own digital copy to type on just click on this link and it will make you a copy all your own. With Love, Sister Jodilyn Blake
